Strawberry Butte Topaz

Strawberry Butte offers one of the Treasure State's few topaz locations. The topaz crystals to be found are rather small, but are well worth the effort. Access is from Interstate 15 and USFS roads. An uphill hike from the gate to the top of the butte is required. Allow an hour driving from Helena, plus another 45 minutes hiking. A hammer and rock chisel are required tools to break open the rocks containing the crystals, which have been found as pale blue, lavender, or sherry colored.

From time-to-time, new location cards will be added to this list, so you may want to check back often.
